
Shoojit Sircar, a film director and producer, was born in 1967 and is now famous for his contributions to Hindi cinema.
Hailing from Barrackpore, Kolkata, he was nurtured in a Bengali family and completed his schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya Barrackpore Airforce. Graduating in Commerce from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, University of Delhi, he embarked on a diverse journey.

In his earlier years, he worked as an accountant at Le Meridien hotel in Delhi before venturing into the advertisement industry. However, it was his exposure to the International Film Festival of India that sparked his cinematic ambitions.
The American documentary “Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam” and Satyajit Ray’s masterpiece “Pather Panchali” shaped his cinematic calling.
Sircar’s journey in the film industry commenced with the establishment of a theater group named Act One, counting the likes of Manoj Bajpayee, Piyush Mishra, and Ashish Vidyarthi among its members. His directorial debut, the poignant romantic war drama “Yahaan” (2005), marked his entry into the world of filmmaking.
Yet, it was “Vicky Donor” (2012), a critically acclaimed and commercially successful romantic comedy, that truly catapulted him into the spotlight. This movie earned him the esteemed National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
He further displayed his versatility with films like the political action thriller “Madras Cafe” (2013), the heartwarming “Piku” (2015), the impactful legal thriller “Pink” (2016), and the poignant coming-of-age drama “October” (2018).
Sircar’s directorial prowess extended to the Amazon Prime Video’s comedy “Gulabo Sitabo” (2020) and the biographical historical drama “Sardar Udham” (2021), both of which garnered critical acclaim.
